Our list will tell you exactly which movies are a must-see in theaters this year… and what to wait and catch on Redbox. The top 10 includes comedy, drama, anime, and eye-opening true life tales…
10. 22 Jump Street
The sequel to 21 Jump Street. In the first movie, the unlikely tandem of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum were awkward, futile and rough around the edges – a match made in heaven. Who would have thought? 22 Jump Street will be a goofy flick for feel good laughs.
9. Gone Girl
In this book-made-movie, Ben Affleck plays Nick Dunne, a man whose dismantled marriage leads to a life crisis when his wife (Rosumund Pike) goes missing and he is the leading suspect in the case.
8. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
A classical type A Hero and 80’s baby’s favorite… Captain America, played by Chris Evans, is taking on an enemy of old, a soviet villain known as The Winter Solider. Action, excitement, battling the forces of evil … and Scarlett Johansson in a leather one piece.
7. Nymphomaniac
Directed by Lars von trier, this contemporary sex drama backlogs the deep rooted and complex sex history of Joe (Charlotte Gainesburg) and opens debate on topics of sexuality.
6. Heaven is For Real
Based off the New York Times best-selling book, Heaven Is for Real tells the true story of a four-year old from small town Nebraska and pastor’s son who experiences heaven during emergency surgery and has the courage to share his story with others. This film will be one of a kind.
5. The Book of Life
OK, I know it’s an animation – but take the kids, cousins, brothers or sisters… this will be very cool. Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana play the leading voices in the story of Manolo, a young man who fights with the decision in life to either follow his heart or fulfill his family’s expectations for him. Before his final decision, he journeys through three different worlds of trial and tribulation and must face his biggest fears.
4. Dumb and Dumber to
So, you’re telling me there’s a chance?! A sequel to a timeless classic in the comedy world. Both actors have had fantastic careers since following D&D’s explosion in ’94. Carey as a comedic visionary and Daniels showing true diversity in his role selection in both movies and TV. Can they pull this off? Not sure but strictly based on its lineage, you’ve got to give it a shot… what was all that one in a million talk?
3. The Hunger Games: Mocking jay part 1
The third in the three part trilogy is sure to leave us with just as many nasty twists and turns as we’ve grown accustomed to. As Katniss’ story concludes, we see more cultural undertones, vibrant visuals, and plays on Power; The Hunger Games has thus far been phenomenal and Mockingjay will not disappoint.
2. Fury
We all remember Pitt’s performance in Quentin Terrantino’s Inglorious Bastards, as Nazi killer Aldo Raine. Pitt, in similar but more stoic fashion will once again stand in Nazi opposition, this time as “war daddy” – a no BS war veteran who travels behind enemy lines for Nazi vengeance. Brad Pitt, who hasn’t been involved in a poor film in decades is assisted by Shia Lebeouf, whose credibility builds with each selective role choice. The two are sure to bring you Fire. Tied in – American heroism and the triumph of Good vs Evil.
1. Exodus
Directed by Ridley Scott(Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster), Exodus tells the story of one of the most prominent names in theology; Moses, the prophet of God who parts the Red Sea. The part is played by Christian Bale, who has turned in countless genius performances, from American Psycho to Batman and has the potential to be at a career best in his portrayal of Moses, with Scott’s steady touch. Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, who’s on the big screen comeup is also featured in the film and we believe this could be a year best for the historical intrigue, meaning, and a dynamite cast.
